The Bahrain Government (Bahrain) has acquired a Boeing 767-400 ER from Boeing for the Bahrain Amiri Flight. However this is not a typical airliner. In anticipation of the funding for a new electronic warfare aircraft (the E-10), Boeing went ahead with the construction of a 767-400 to be used as the platform for this program. The E-10 was slated to be the replacement for the E-8 Joint Stars which is based on the aging 707-300 airframe. Due to budget cuts, the program was cancelled but the aircraft had already been built. The airframe sat on the Everett ramp for several months with the registration N526BA. Boeing did fly the aircraft on test flights to keep it in an airworthy condition. The aircraft will now become the replacement for the Bahrain Amiri Flight 747SP. The 767 is now wearing the registration A9C-HMH, the same registration as the 747SP.
